The Barzinji Institute for Global Virtual Learning collaborates with institutions of higher education around the world to explore the similarities and differences in their missions and practices, to understand the challenges that they face and to create solutions in light of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Barzinji Institute for Global Virtual Learning engages in COIL, virtual exchange, virtual reality and global service projects. We work to showcase our various initiatives through conferences, publications, webinars and social media.
These are the services we provide to the field:
- Conduct workshops and professional development on COIL and virtual exchange. Faculty members go through the workshop with their international partners and learn relevant technologies, intercultural skills and partnership modalities.
- We provide additional support to faculty members by providing them with a COIL partner when needed, offering COIL-related travel grants, and offering opportunities to showcase their teaching and research activities involving virtual exchange.
- Consult regarding institutionalizing virtual exchange at universities, e.g. how to include it within faculty promotions, university events and lecture series.
- Help universities and colleges launch and scale their own COIL and virtual exchange programs
Between 2020-24, Shenandoah's Barzinji Institute has trained over 100 faculty members on COIL and virtual exchange. Graduates enter into a robust alumni network that includes webinars, conference presentation, publications, research and travel to partner schools. We hope to grow our alumni network and welcome new members into our trainings.
